Connectedness

This is the word that comes to mind as I contemplate Earth Day.

When I worked with kids daily, I had an imperative within me to teach them how important it was to take care of the Earth.

It wasn’t OUR Earth.

It was THE Earth.

I had a separateness mindset.

We are not separate from her.

The mindset that separates us from our great Mother is the same one that provides an opportunity, wriggle room in our minds, to negate our responsibility to her. It doesn’t revere and honor what she provides us. Nor does this mindset feel the pain we inflict upon her.

We forget that we need her nourishment, love and energy to survive and thrive.

We forget she does not need us as evidenced during the planet’s sacred pause at the onset of COVID.

The wonders we saw as she sprang back to life; endangered species, moved back to cities, how clear the stars were in the night sky when we turned off the headlights of our cars, to name a few.

I invite you to see yourself as one of these many cherry blossom blooms in these pictures, in just this portion of one tree.

Yes, we are unique and individual as all the other species that live in, on, and above Mother Earth.

BUT we must remember our connectedness.

We must remember we ARE nature.

As we take care of our children, our parents, our pets, and ourselves we must extend this caretaking to Mother Earth.

For without her, what do we have?

What will you do to honor this sacred responsibility?

Any action, great or small, is worthy. You, by yourself, can make an impact.
